Included in your membership will be a Southpaw T shirt – to be mailed directly to you.
We are an all volunteer organization and we do not have a central location or shelter building where you can meet all of the animals in one place. All animals are fostered in private homes in various parts of the United States. Most of our dogs are currently being fostered in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Indiana, Texas, and Virginia. Prospective adopters can have the opportunity to meet a dog once they have completed an application and the reference checks have been completed and passed review if they are willing to travel to the area where the dog is fostered. Please note that a home visit is required prior to adoption and we don't make exceptions for that requirement.
Many of the dogs we currently have available for adoption have been rescued from a puppy mill. The decription of each animal usually states where we rescued it from. Before inquiring about one of our animals that was rescued from a puppy mill or applying to adopt one of our animals rescued from a puppy mill. Please read about puppy mills and the life many of the dogs in our rescue had to endure before coming into our rescue. (http://www.southpawrescue.org/). This will better prepare you for the issues you may have if you adopt. Extensive rehabilitation work is done while an animal is in foster care, and our rescued animals usually make amazing progress, but each animal is different and will have different needs. Some respond so quickly that they are like a "normal" dog when adopted, others are more scared and slower to learn that they are now safe. If you have questions about a specific animal and what they are like, please email us and we'll gladly tell you more about them once we have your adoption application.
Adopters must be willing to travel to the location of the animal they wish to adopt in most cases to pick up their new animal companion. We do prefer they be adopted within a 300 mile radius of where they are being fostered. If you do not live within a 300 mile radius of where your dog is being fostered, you can request that we arrange transportation to you if you are located on one of the routes our transport service travels. There is an addition fee for the transport service. The cost ranges from 0 – 0 depending on where the dog is located and where you are located. This service is not available for all locations. Please email us to see if our transport service can transport your dog to you. All of our animals are available for sponsorship. Sponsorship helps pay for vetting and care of the dogs until they go to their forever homes. Our rescue relies totally on donations to pay for the veterinary needs of the animals we rescue. We are a very small rescue and any amount you can donate, even will help. Veterinary costs for each rescued animal are almost always at least 0, and in some cases well over ,000. We've had a few dogs that had very serious medical issues and those veterinary costs were much higher. We also have a "Wish List" if you would like to donate in that way. Please support our efforts how you are able to so we can rescue more animals in need!
Please become a member today – they need you!

The Polar Bears of Kaktovik Alaska – STEP 1 of the Reservation Process
Event on 2012-08-16 07:00:00
Join The Amazing Image for an incredible four days in northern Alaska as we visit Polar Bears in the wild!
Unlike Churchill Manitoba's famous "tundra buggy" tours that place the photographer up in the air and looking down at the bears, we'll have you safely in a small boat so you'll be at eye level, making eye contact.
That's a recipie for fantastic images – and that's our goal for you!
These tours are designed to bring you close – but not too close – to these amazing animals in their natural habitat.
We work with a well qualified native Inupiat Eskimo guide who has been vetted by the US Fish & Wildlife Service and is licensed by the US Coast Guard.
He knows where the bears will be and when they'll be there and he knows how to keep both you and the bears safe.
At one point on our 2011 tour, we sighted 16 polar bears at the same time – the photographic opportunities were incredible – there was a great shot in every direction!
You'll have an experienced, award-winning wildlife photographer at your side as you take the pictures of a lifetime, and he is completely dedicated to making sure you get the best images possible.
After the day's shoot, we'll sit together and critique images and where possible, offer suggestions on how to do even better the next day!
Full trip details are available at The Amazing Image and in the registration packet.
IMPORTANT: Buying this ticket is only the first of two steps in reserving your space on this tour. After you purchase this ticket, we'll send a registration packet by mail, parts of which must be completed and returned with the balance of your payment to secure your place.
The total cost of the tour is 95.00. This includes:
- Round Trip airfare from Fairbanks to Kaktovik
- Meals and 3 nights lodging in Kaktovik
- Ground transportation in Kaktovik
- Boat transportation to the Polar Bear's location
- Inupiat Eskimo Guide
- Photography Guide
- Arctic Circle Crossing Certificate
The balance is due no later than 6 months prior to the tour.
Be sure you have selsected the correct date – we have three separate 4-day tours to Kaktovik beginning on 8/16/12, 8/20/12 and 8/24/12 respectively.
We can recommend some great side trips for the rest of your time in Alaska – just let me know if you would like suggestions. Your Photography Guide may be available to join you in other parts of the state, depending on availability.
This trip is strictly limited to 6 guests and your place is confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis and all are subject to our cancellation policies.
